Sexual Disorders

Introduction
Despite the significant prevalence of sexual disorders and their effect on mental health, studies in this area are limited in Iran. The cultural, social and religious factors are affecting on this limitation of researches. The Sexual Disorders Research Group began its activity in 2008, after designing and implementing two theses in the field of Sexual Disorders, at the Mental Health Research Center. The titles of these theses were “Comparison of male and female gender role in people with gender identity disorder referring to Tehran Psychiatric Institute” and “Determination of frequency of high-risk behaviors and HIV infection in people with gender identity disorder referring to Tehran Psychiatric Institute in 2009.” At the same time, several research projects began in this field at the research center. The first article of this group, entitled "The Epidemiology of Transsexualism in Iran" was published in Journal of Gay & Lesbian Mental Health. Since then, several thesis, dissertation and research projects were carried out by this research group. The group tries to improve and enhance the knowledge in the field of sexual disorders and sexual health by conducting fundamental and applied researches
